Getting to The Elms, Redruth

Parking

There are currently two disabled parking spaces at the front of the building. Both have access to both sides of the vehicle, depending on which way round you park. As you drive into the building’s parking they are on the right.

The driveway is tarmac but uneven in places. Approaching the steps at the front of the building there is a ramp on the left, it goes round the raised flower bed. There are also three shallow steps up to the door if you prefer. Entrance is through the sliding doors into reception. The doors are electric and open to 112cms wide.

Reception

The door is 70cm wide. There is a pull down rail on the left of the toilet and a fixed one on the right. The sink has two vertical rails one each side. There is a shower in one corner (it is a wet room). There is a red alarm pull and a yellow bin for sanitary and medical waste.

Kitchenette

This room is available to make hot drinks. It is equipped with a microwave and a sink. This room is small and not wheelchair accessible. Please ask a member of reception if you would like a hot drink but are unable to access the kitchenette.

Godrevy Room

There are two, tiled steps down into Godrevy with handrails on both sides. Wheelchair access is provided by a ramp from Bishop’s Rock. The door between Godrevy and Bishop’s Rock is 80cm wide. Godrevy is a flexible, open space and is often used for eating and relaxing in.

Godrevy has tables, chairs and banquette seating. There is also a comfortable seating area with low sofas and poser tables.

The room has floor to ceiling windows meaning and overhead spotlights meaning it is a very light, bright and airy space. The hard flooring means the room has an echo.

The room overlooks a small outdoor area. There is level access to the outdoor area through a door 87cm wide.

A ramp takes you into Bishop’s Rock room through a door 80cm wide.
Godrevy room at The Elms

Bishop’s Rock Room

Bishop’s Rock is often used for meetings or as a classroom. It has banquette seating under large windows with a low, lounge-style table. This is a large space which has flexible tables and chairs for meetings and a drop down projector screen. The room is fitted with spotlighting which is activated by movement-sensors.

Leaving Bishop’s Rock there are double doors which can both be opened to make an entrance of 120cms.

In front of you there is a decorative old staircase with wooden banisters going upstairs on the left and a short corridor on the right leading to the old front door which is 115cm wide. There is a portable ramp for this entrance.

Directly on the right is another door leading to the corridor back to reception. This is 80cm wide. The corridor is fitted with spotlighting which is activated by movement-sensors.

Tater Du Room

Tater Du meeting room is halfway along the corridor. There is level access to this room.

On this corridor there are two toilets which are not wheelchair accessible.

Wheelchair accessible lift

The wheelchair accessible lift can be found on this corridor. A maximum of three people at a time can use the lift. The doors open to the right on the ground floor, to the right on the mezzanine level and to the left on the main upstairs level.

Upstairs

Going up the small stairs from the Reception lobby there is a small room and an Evac Chair on the middle landing. Continuing up you will come to the Mezzanine level.

Mezzanine

The mezzanine has a seating area with low sofas. There are steps to this area. A balcony opens over the reception area. There is a refuge call button on the wall by the stairs door.

Continuing through the opposite door which is 80cms wide there are a number of wall-mounted counters which provide desk space. Through this area there are then stairs or the lift up to the Upper Corridor which has a two offices opening from it as well as a small kitchenette with a hot water boiler and two toilets.

Upstairs Disabled Toilet

The door opens to the left and 92cm wide. There is a lift down rail on the right of the toilet and a fixed rail on the left. There are also double rails by the sink. A red emergency pull cord is available. There is no yellow sanitary bin.

Stairs

You can leave upstairs using the main stairs which have a handrail to the left or by taking the lift. There is a large photocopier-printer in this area which is available for community groups and groups hiring rooms.
