Get Growing

Category: Food & Growing
Location: St Austell
When: Mondays
Time and venue: 9.30am-12:20pm | Sawles Road Allotments, St Austell

Cornwall Neighbourhood’s for Change Food and Growing programme manages plots on Pengegon Allotments in Camborne and Sawles Road Allotments in St Austell. Led by Community Grower, Karen Llewellyn, the allotment offer a friendly and supportive environment to those who want to learn something new. You don’t need gardening experience, just enthusiasm and a willingness to be part of something and get stuck in.

Working on the allotment is rewarding but the results don’t happen instantly. Our Food and Growing programme runs throughout the year and you’ll pick up lots of knowledge along the way – things you didn’t even know there was to know about growing vegetables! The length of sessions vary depending on the weather and from mid-November to mid-February activities are based indoors.

Over winter you’ll learn how to make a plan for the plot; by spring, you’ll be planting out seedlings and from early to late summer you’ll be harvesting – and you’ll get to keep the produce.

Karen, our Community Grower oversees the majority of the ground preparation. So although you’ll be involved in maintaining and caring for the plot there’s no obligation to do heavy work such as digging over, unless you want to.

We provide tools and gloves and may be able to provide practical clothing too. Please ask if you’re unsure about what to wear. Get Growing is for anyone who has a love of nature and the outdoors and wants to be part of a community of growers. If that sounds like you, come and try it out.
