TOAST
TOAST is a welcoming post-16 community where young people can learn, explore what matters to them and work towards a future they choose.
Based in Redruth and supporting learners across Cornwall, we build each programme with the young person around their strengths, needs and goals. That could mean learning at home, joining us in the building, taking part in community projects or gaining work experience.
Alongside education and qualifications, we make space for mental wellbeing, relationships and independence, helping each learner find a way forward that works for them.

TOAST
Our lives, our futures, our power
TOAST stands for Taking Our Achievements and Successes Together. Young people chose the name, and their voices continue to shape what TOAST is and how it works.
TOAST is CN4C’s post-16 provision for young people aged 16–18, and young adults up to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). It offers a smaller, more personal approach for young people who need a different route from a typical college programme.
Your programme, your goals
We start by getting to know you. What do you enjoy? What has worked for you before? What gets in the way? What would you like your future to look like?
We use those answers to build a programme with you. It may include:

community activities

physical activity and sport

mental health, wellbeing and mindfulness

and support to explore what comes next.
Your goals might also focus on mental wellbeing, friendships, confidence or independence. We take those goals seriously too.
Learning across Cornwall
Our TOAST building is in Redruth, but we support young people across many parts of Cornwall. Learning can begin through tuition at home, with opportunities to build towards coming into the building if that is possible and right for you. It can also take place in the community and with local organisations.
There is no set pace for that journey. We work with you to find a starting point that feels manageable and review the plan together as your needs and confidence change.
Learning by doing
At TOAST, you can put learning into practice. You might help plan a project, try cooking or enterprise activities, visit a workplace or explore an interest in the community. These experiences help you find out what you enjoy and develop skills you can use beyond TOAST.
We work with local organisations and employers to create opportunities, and young people help shape the activities they take part in.
People who get to know you
Relationships matter here. Our teachers and support staff take time to understand how you communicate, what helps you feel settled and what support you want when things are difficult.
Some learners are ready to join a group straight away. Others need a slower start, learning at home or time with a familiar adult before trying a new setting. We work with you, your family or carers and the other people involved in your education to make a plan that works for you.
Your next step
TOAST can play a different role in each person’s journey. For some learners, we are their main provision as they build skills and experience towards work. For others, TOAST is a stepping stone: a place to explore interests, build confidence and prepare for their next opportunity.
We will help you think through your options and work towards a next step that makes sense for you. Along the way, we celebrate qualifications and work experience, as well as the personal achievements that make those steps possible.
